About Our School

BCHS has a present enrollment of 60 students from Cycle One through to Secondary V. We are the only English school in the Baie-Comeau area; most of our students live in the town. It is one of fifteen youth sector schools that is served by Eastern Shores School Board.

The school building was first constructed in 1937 along with two churches, the pulp and paper mill, company housing, a hospital and port facilities. BCHS has moved a number of times throughout its history. Most recently, thanks to MELS and ESSB, the building has had three major  renovation projects – all of them have refreshed and upgraded our look and facilities.

The school features a Community Learning Centre with full video conference facilities. It is also home for the North Shore Community Association, serving the anglophone population in Baie-Comeau, Port-Cartier, Sept-Iles and Fermont.

Hello Baie Comeau! I was listening to the article on CBC Breakaway yesterday and wanted to say ‘hello’. I was the teacher from Noranda School who commented on their Facebook page about it and they read the comments during the show :) We are a similar size school. We have just over 40 students Sec 1-5 and share the building with our elementary school which this year is at around 85 students. I would be interested in any activities or projects your teachers might want to do with students or just networking with staff from another small school. I teach mainly Cycle 1 (math, geo, hist, sci and ERC) I also teach ERC to Sec 4/5. We have a high school staff of 5 teachers and another 5 in elementary with some part time people as well. Rouyn-Noranda is a community of about 50 000 people, strong economy in the mining sector however we are a ‘NANS’ school. Most of our students come from French homes so we struggle with the slow development of their language skills as I am sure you do as well. I’d love to hear back from you and open the communication lines for whatever future dialogue it might bring!
